Rally March: November 13th, 4:00pm
Please join us this Monday, the day before the next scheduled board meeting, as we MARCH along 395 sharing our messages with the community. We hope to fill the sidewalks in the middle of town (avoiding all the construction!) with red and positive messages on our signs. If you can attend, please bring signs with messages calling for a Better Board that prioritizes:
- positive interactions with staff and students
- support for students and staff
- willingness to listen to parents, students, and staff
- transparency in decision-making (including fiscal decision-making)
- an open process of selecting next superintendent

Public comment will be limited to 1 min so please be prepared. Public comment will occur on every agenda item, as well as the general public comment at 5:30 pm, and the closing public comment. Please be sure to keep your comments respectful.
We want to ensure that we clearly communicate to the board and the community and that we don’t distract from that important message. Please allow everyone who makes public comment, whether you agree or disagree with the speaker, to speak without being interrupted. We should demonstrate respect and willingness to listen, as our young people and community are watching the meetings and our actions.

Special Board Meeting: November 1, 2023
You are invited to another special school board meeting. Following the text of this email, please find the agenda link and information for joining the meeting via Zoom.
When: Wednesday, November 1, 2023, 11:30 a.m.
Where: the Airport Training Center, 1226 Airport Road, Minden, NV
Why: Accept the resignation of Keith Lewis as DCSD Superintendent
We understand that many of you have other commitments that prevent you from attending or watching remotely. For those who can attend, you will have two opportunities to make public comment for one minute each, first on the motion to accept Mr. Lewis’s resignation, and again during regular public comment on any other items not related to the resignation.
We want to emphasize in public comment the community’s expectation that the board will follow a thoughtful and transparent process as they decide on a permanent replacement for superintendent to include a call for qualified applicants, a fair review process to select those to interview, and an open and transparent process in public for the interviews. The board should not simply award a contract to a new superintendent without a thoughtful, thorough, and open process.
You are of course welcome to comment on Mr. Lewis’s resignation or any other items at the appropriate times for public comment. As always, you may also email your comments and concerns ahead to all board members (click HERE to email all seven trustees).
We will read a statement on behalf of the members of We Deserve a Better Board related to Mr. Lewis’s resignation and the need for an open selection and hiring process for our next superintendent.
